1 euro Breakfast

Two Fridays ago one of my friends invited me to have a breakfast at HEMA, one of the stores in the city. It was my first time to have breakfast outside. I always shop at Hema but I never know that they offer breakfast for 1 euro from 9-10 a.m. The breakfast was so good that I brought my daughter there yesterday morning. She likes it too. A breakfast plate with bacon and egg on a French bread, croissant and a choice of a cup to tea, coffee or orange juice for 1 euro. Isn't it enough for breakfast? For me, it is more than enough. I really like the croissant. I have never tasted croissants like that at Hema. It becomes my routine now if ever I go shopping I drop by first at Hema and enjoy the delicious croissant.

Words With Friends

December 26 was my first time to play Words With Friends on Facebook. I would admit that I am addicted to that game. Words with Friends is another name for Scrabble. I started playing scrabble when I was 18 years old (I think). That is one of my favorite board games. The last time that I played scrabble on the computer was in 1997 since then I never had the time or desire to play.
Word Feud I heard that from my sister-in-law when she was here last December 10 on my hubby's birthday. My longing to play the game again was back. I have not played for a long time. But it is a pity because Word Feud can only be placed in android and iPhone devices. I only have nokia. So, I searched on the net if I can play scrabble via Facebook. After hours of searching I was able to place my first word on Words with Friends. Sometimes I play four games at the time until midnight. It sharpens my brain that has not been used for years. I came across words which I did not know. Never mind as long as win the game.

The Second Day of Christmas

December 26 is the second day of Christmas. Everything is in its place. A quiet and normal day for us. I went to the supermarket nearby to buy milk. We runned out of milk this morning. I cannot wait until tomorrow. Everybody drinks milk. We need milk in our cereals for breakfast.
We have just finished eating our dinner. I baked some pizza. Kids love to knead the pizza dough. They were having fun this afternoon while kneading their own dough. My boy put mushrooms, ham and topped his pizza with grated cheese. My girl made a ham and cheese pizza. A big pizza for us. Mushrooms, pineapple chunks and onions made my pizza delectable. Pizza without mozarella is not a pizza. Mozarella cheese had completed my yummy pizza. Half an hour from now we will have cheese fondue.
It is really a big fatty day!

Christmas 2011

The Dutch people celebrate Christmas for two days December 25 and 26. Most of the people celebrate christmas in their own house, only few went out for Christmas dinner. On the second day of Christmas they spend it by visiting family and friends. Yesterday evening my mother-in-law was here to join us celebrate this important event of the year. When my hubby came to pick her up just then she realized that she did not buy any gift for us. Never mind, she is already 84 years old and she begins to forget some things. But the most important she did remember the kids.
We had fondue. Chicken, pork tenderloin, fresh shrimps and salmon, meat balls and mushrooms were ready to be dipped in the hot oil (fondue pan). I like fondue because I do not need to stand in the kitchen for hours to prepare the dinner. My kids liked the shrimps, meat balls and mushrooms. I did not prepare any desserts because after dinner we had coffee and cocktail snacks. A cup of coffee machiatto was served by my hubby after dinner. Around 9 pm we had cocktail snacks. Grandma went home around 10:30 pm. I went to bed around 12 midnight. It was a fantastic evening!

Study For A Better Job

To land a good job in a non-English speaking country is very difficult. One must first study the language and then follow a college or university education. Going to college or university here is very expensive. So, some people prefer to study at home like me. I have been studying bookkeeping since last year. The course consists of four subjects such as Business Economics, Financial Administration, Cost Price Calculations and the Ledger. For me, it is difficult because I do not have any background in bookkeeping and besides it is in Dutch language. Yes, I like math that is why I chose this course. But sometimes I do not understand the answers to the problems. As the sayings goes: "In every problem there is always a solution." But my problem is I do not understand the solution. So, I need to search on the net to find the easiest explanation. Sometimes I landed on an online accounting site which is very helpful. If there are terms that I do not understand in Dutch, I will search the English words. Internet helps me a lot in my study. On January I will take the exams in Financial Administration and Business Economics. Hope to pass and from there apply for a bookkeeping job.

I think my blogroll is gone by the wind forever. I have waited for a week to have my links back. They said if you buy a new domain there is a tendency that some gadgets will be gone. After having my new domain, one of my gadgets was gone, my blogroll. No choice, I have to add the links/blogs one by one. I have started yesterday evening visiting and searching for the blogs which had my link. Maybe it will take months to search the blogs that have my link. It is very difficult to find the blogs which have my links.

Yesterday evening I bought a domain name for this blog. After configuring the DNS the blogroll was gone. I was a bit worry when I saw my empty blogroll. I have read forums that the blogroll was lost because of my new URL. After four days they will be back, which I really hope or else I will be in big trouble. So, do not worry fellows if you do not see your blogs in my blogroll. They are in a short vacation. Mr Google refreshes them ;)

I was very happy that this blog has its own domain name.

The other two blogs of mine have already domain names. My hubby had lot of problems before in installing the DNS and CNAME of my two other blogs, that is why it took awhile for this blog to have its domain name. I have three domain providers. Each blog has different domain providers because we were not satisfied with the services rendered by the previous providers. The domain name of this blog is from mydomein.nl, a Dutch company. I paid 9 euros per year including tax.
If you do not know how to install the DNS go to blogspot and find the anwers to your queries. Blogspot explains clearly "How do I use a custom domain name for my blog?" Follow carefully! You will have your domain name in few minutes after installing the DNS and CNAME.
All I have to do now is to wait for maybe four days until the redirections is done, from blogspot to com.

The Netherlands Team against Moldavia 2011 (1-0)

This match was played in the Kuip Stadion in Rotterdam (it's only one hour from Amsterdam, the capital city of the Netherlands).
The Netherland team players this time were: Klaas-Jan Huntelaar, Dirk Kuyt, Rafael van de Vaart, Mark van Bommel, Robin van Persie, Kevin Strootman, Jeffrey Bruma, Gregory van der Wiel, Erik Pieters, Joris Mathijsen and Michel Vorm. The team played without Wesley Sneijder and Maarten Stekelenburg.
It was raining in the first half. The field was very wet but the game must go on, of course.
A very good pass from Kuyt to Huntelaar which made a very good chance to score. Huntelaar did it again. Goal!! Klaas-Jan Huntelaar hit a very good right footed shot to the lower right corner from the centre penalty area (aprox. 6 yards) and scored! 1-0 for the Netherlands team after 39 minutes.
The Netherlands team had many chances in scoring but the Moldavian keeper, Stanislav Namasco catched and stopped the ball several times.
After 77 minutes was the first substitution: Eljero Elia entered for Rafael Van der Vaart for tactical reason.
Erik Pieters committed a foul on Denis Zmeu resulting on a free kick for Moldova but did not score.
The first yellow card was given to Kevin Strootman for a unsporting behaviour. But anyway, the Netherlands team won again.

Chinese Arts in The Hague

I was in The Hague to get pick up some papers from the Philippine Embassy. From our house to The Hague is around 1.5 hours ride in a train. I have to stop over two times. When I arrived at The Hague Central Station I had to take a tram going to the Philippine Embassy.
One of my blogger friends, Fe of "Fe's Journey of Life" lives in The Hague. So, I made an appointment with her if we could meet at the Central Station. We have been communicating each other through blog and phone calls for awhile. It was nice to meet some blogger friends. See the wonder of internet! The social media networks are very useful. We met at the Central Station around 12:30 p.m. We took our lunch at KFC, Filipinos favourite fastfood restaurant. After that she showed me the city of The Hague. We went in and out the shopping stores. She brought me to a big old amazing building where the Netherlands Parliament is housed. We saw lots of visitors from different countries. She took these pics for me.
Every year the city of The Hague invites artists to display their arts. This year's artists are from China.

It was a wonderful day. The weather was fine and the meeting of a nice friend made the day extra beautiful. I still have lots of pictures taken in The Hague to be posted. To give you a little perception of The Hague I will post some pics soon.

One of my blogger friends, Judy of JUDY H-J'S THOUGHTS - A TWINLESS TWIN visits my blogs regularly. Judy, thank you so much for leaving comments! Her recent post is about collections of her favourite bird figurines. I just want to share my collections too.

These wedgwood dinnerware are still in my homeland. I really wanted to have them shipped soon. The shipping is very expensive. In 2004 we moved to the Philippines. We brought everything we had. These wedgwood sets are still packed in plastic boxes. When we were in the Philippines we only used the plates. Some of my friends told me if I could just give these things to my family. "NO" because these things have valuable meaning to me. Some of these wedgwood plates and cups were given to me during my birthdays as a gift. They are priceless to me.

I do not know if I can still buy these designs. I have been surfing on the net but I did not see any of these designs. I have to find first a shipping company which charges a reasonable price before buying new ones. Hope to have them soon!

During the exciting and sensational liveshow, Aliyah got 35% public's votes and was the winner of Holland's Got Talent 2011.

The task of the judges Gordon, Patricia Paay and Dan Karaty that night was only to give advice to the audience whom to vote for.
There were three possible winners. It was very difficult to choose. The competition was very close. The top three performers were very good. Patricia Paay invited the Pop'arazzi Crew and acrobat Boy to her jubilee party on October 15 and Dan Karaty for the time with a teardrop watching the performance of the Pop'arazzi Crew. The act was really impressive and superb. The dance act landed on the 4th place.

The 11-yr. old Aliyah who sung the greatest song of Whitney Housten (I Who Got Nothing) was the night's favourite performer. Aliyah received a brand new car. "How could Aliyah used it she did not have a license yet. She has to wait for 7 yrs. to ride it. :) ". The splendid act of the acrobat Boy received a big support from the audience. Opera Familia, who have amazing voice got the third place. The judges and audience were very satisfied of the result.

It is very nice to know that a new star is born. Congratulations! Aliyah.
It was very difficult to choose because the contestants had different talents. Maybe next time they could narrow down the criteria that there will be no singing and dancing contestants because there are already Ex Factor, My Name Is... and The Voice of Holland for singing contest; I THINK YOU CAN DANCE for the dance contest. You cannot create a good, valid and fair criteria if the contestants show different performances/acts.
Pop'arazzi Crew for me, the best dancers ever. But anyway, CONGRATULATIONS! to the top three.

School Vacation

The first thing I do when I open my blog, is immediately check the chatbox. I visit those who left messages and link those who ask for exchange links.
I have deleted more than 20 blogs. It was not bad. Some blogs are not active anymore and some are not having my link. I have just finished deleting some blogs in my blogroll. I did some cleaning up today in my blogroll. I have just found out that some bloggers put your links in their blog but when you clicked the link, it displayed PAGE CANNOT BE FOUND or you see other link which is not yours. When I visit a blog and find it interesting I usually leave a message for exchange links. Many bloggers leave a message in the chatbox and suggested: please add my blog first and I link you back. So, I put their blog in my blogroll. Visit their blog again leaving a message that I have done linking their blog. After a few days, I checked if my link was added to their blog but sometimes it is frustrating to know that your blog was not linked. It is very unfair and dishonest.
We should help each other to burst our visitors. Linking each other's blog is one way to increase blog popularity. The more links you have, the more visitors...and PR goes up. High PR means more advertisers and so ...more income.
Bloggers...be honest; don't be egoistic.

I Still Feel Sleepy

I woke up an hour earlier than my usual time this morning. The time was set one hour forward from 2 a.m. to 3 a.m. the other night to make the daytime longer. Yesterday I set my samsung cellphone manually to the summer time. When I went to bed last night I forgot to set the summer time in my nokia cellphone which I use as an alarm. When I looked at my nokia cellphone this morning it was 6 a.m. so I got up. I thought it was 7 a.m. I do not know that nokia cellphones are automatically set to the summer time. I went down. It was still dark outside. I was half-asleep. I had no other thing to do than turned on the computer and checked my fb, blogs and emails. I posted the graduation greetings for my nephew which I prepared yesterday since he graduates from highschool today.

I still feel sleepy. I just hope that the sun shines today to make my day a better one.

Kevin had his 7th birthday last March 16. In school he treated his classmates to a bag of candies. I filled the 27 bags with candies and a toy. I forgot to make pictures of his treats. For the teachers, I made these cupcakes.
Here, when someone has his birthday, he should treat his classmates including the teachers. Last Saturday the family of my husband was here. We had a small cocktail party. We are not yet done celebrating his birthday because he will treat his 6 close friends to the kids playground on Saturday. It is really expensive celebrating kid's birthday.

The season of growth; "the emerging buds were a sure sign of spring".
You can see tiny buds coming out. You hear birds chirping early in the morning. So, springtime is here again. The temperature today is between 10-15 degree celsius.

Around 12:21 o’clock this morning was it so far. The spring began officially.
Actually the meteorologist know that the spring begins on 1 March. Their argument is that a period of three months in every season. But the astronomers calculate the beginning of the spring based on the position of the earth with respect to the sun. If it stands precisely above the equator in March, then the spring begins. That this spring begins on 21 March, comes temporarily no longer for. In the coming years begin the astronomical spring every year closely on 20 March and from 2044 even on 19 March.

His New Outlook In Life

A surprise message was left on my facebook last week. I met him five years ago when I was in my country. He is a good, hardworking and smart guy. He searched me on the net and found my blogs and facebook account. I was so happy to hear that he is enjoying his new job being an account manager in one of the call centers in his place. He has now a new outlook in life...enjoy life to the fullest. He used to work more than eight hours a day to gain knowledge about the things he wanted to learn. Those days were over. He has now a good paid job. He is saving money to visit places. His plans are to see Europe and the rest of the world. I cannot wait to see him at Schiphol Airport someday. I am cleaning up my blogroll. I am starting to get rid of the dead backlinks in my blog. I have just removed more than 20 blogs from my blogroll. These blogs had no more links to my blog. It is unfair because they just removed my blog without any reason. I have to do this inorder to maintain my PR or just to check if other bloggers still have my links on their blogs. Many bloggers do exchange links from you but after a while they removed your blog without any reason. If I mistakably removed your link from my blog, please let me know as soon as possible. I will do the necessary corrections immediately.

The Holidays Were Over, I'm Glad

I'm happy to be back to my old routine.

How was your holiday season?
I was very busy since the last week of November. The festivities had already started last November. November 11, the Sint Maarten - I have to buy candies for the kids. It is like a "trick a treat" in the U.S.
December 5 is the Sinterklaas - the time of the year where kids receive lots of gifts. So, I had to go shopping and look for the gifts my kids wanted.
December 25, the first day of Christmas and December 26, the second day of Christmas - The Christmas season is the most tiresome time of the year but very joyful. We do not buy only gifts but also food. Family and friends come to visit or the other way around.
Before the year ends is the The New Year's Eve celebration where people welcome the year with lots of fireworks and food. We decided not to buy fireworks this year. I only prepared food to welcome the "YEAR OF THE RABBIT"
I am very glad that the holidays were over. I can now do my usual routine. No more shopping, I hate shopping.

Cannot Find my Other Blog on the Net

I could not find my other blog "MY LIFE IN HOLLAND" since a month ago. I tried to search on the net how to find it but I did not find any answer. The links to my blog are still on the search engines like GOOGLE, YAHOO, etc. but when I clicked the link, it displayed "SERVER cannot be FOUND". The blog is still on my dashboard. I can open, delete or edit my old posts but when I clicked view blog, the same problem will appear "server cannot be found". I cannot contact my webhost because I forgot the company. I bought the domain name for a year on April this year. So, it was not yet expired. I am so upset because I have opps to post.

Going Dutch is a slang term indicating that each person participating in a shared activity pays for himself or herself, rather than any one person paying for anyone else. It is also called Dutch date and Dutch Treat.

The phrase "going Dutch" originates from the concept of a Dutch door. Previously on farmhouses this consisted of two equal parts (Sullivan. 2010). Another school of thought is that is may be related to Dutch etiquette. In the Netherlands, it was not unusual to pay separately when going out as a group. When dating in a 1 on 1 situation however, the man will most commonly pay for meals and drinks.

In the Philippines, it is referred to as KKB, an acronym for "Kanya-Kanyang Bayad" which can be translated in English as "Pay for your own self".

The traditional way to handle a bill on a date in the United States has been that the one who invited the other takes the bill and the invitee may not even know the actual price of the meal. An alternative view is that traditionally payment has always been made by the male. Full payment by the male is still most common in the UK.

In India, the practice is called as TTMM - Tu Tera Mein Mera Hindi (or Tujhe Tu Majhe Mi in Marathi) meaning 'You pay yours and I pay mine'. When the expression going Dutch is used, it often refers to splitting the bill equally. In Pakistan, similarly, Apna Apna is used to mean 'Each his own'.

We have just finished eating our dinner. During our dinner my son asked what is an astronaut. Does he earn good? Yes, he earns much money answered my husband. You should be very smart, he added. On the other hand my daughter asked how about a nurse. How much does a nurse earn? Not much, I answered. I want to be a nurse or doctor when I grow up, uttered my daughter clearly. She is fascinated with the doctor's or nurse's uniforms. She asked me if I could buy a nursing uniform for her. I do not know where to buy the medical uniforms for kids. Two weeks ago the blinds of my daughter's bedroom window was damaged. You can pull them up but you cannot close the slats.

Sjoelen, a Dutch Game

Annabel, Kevin and with some other kids played sjoelen during the birthday party of my friend's son. They really had fun. Every time the disks passed through a 4-point gate, they yelled that the entire neighborhood could hear their yell.
Sjoelen is one of the Dutch games. It can be played inside or outside. Sjoelen is played on a wooden bin (the sjoelbak) with wooden disks. At the end of the bin, there are four gates with small openings where the disks/stones just fit through. In general, players take turns sliding, or "shuffling," the stones to the opposite end of the board with four gates, trying to score points. If all stones are thrown, the stones which do not go through the gates should be taken back. These stones/disks are then for the second and third turn. After three turns, the points are counted. Every gate has a corresponding point like 1, 2, 3 and 4. For example, a stone that passed through in a 3-point gate then the score is 3 points.

The right rule is that the stones in its entire must pass through the opening. There are different rules in playing this game. The players must decide which stones gain points. But there are also official rules in playing this game. The game is often played at home with family and friends. There are many variations in playing sjoelen or shuffleboard (in English term).

When it is summertime we have problems with ants, mosquitoes, bees and other kinds of tropical insects. It is because of the hot weather. We cannot even sit outside during the night because of the mosquitoes. When my husband sees one mosquito inside the house, he will not sit down until he kills it. He knows that mosquitoes like him. I only see mosquitoes in the summer. We also have ants in the house. Few weeks ago I saw ants inside the house. They probably got in via the garden door. My husband hates ants. They are dirty and they bite. I am glad that they are not fire ants. The fire ants are dangerous. One effective way of killing fire ants is the use of fire ant baits. The bait is carried by workers back to the colony and fed to other ants, including the queen. There are a number of recommended products on the market to kill the fire ants.
